Macvilho
LOCATED IN kenya
Through the creation of decorative accents and textiles in Chiapas, Mexico, artisans at Macvilho preserve traditional Maya techniques without the use of modern machinery. Founded by a group of seven artisan women, Macvilho continues to grow and has integrated men who also support with physically demanding tasks.
This has improved relationships, strengthened the communication and understanding between men and women, and promoted gender equity overall. This supportive environment of reciprocity has helped to advance the well-being of entire families, as the entrepreneurial collaboration between men and women allows artisans to generate small savings and improve their nutrition.
The artisans create beautiful and colorful pom poms, tassels, and décor from plush yarn. While creating handmade goods, they earn fair wages and can generate savings. Selling their goods to a global audience creates more employment opportunities for the artisans at Macvilho, allowing them to lead better lives.
