anchal Project
LOCATED IN india
Social enterprise Anchal Project supports sustainable employment opportunities for women who were previously exploited by the commercial sex trade and are creating a safer future. The social enterprise offers holistic solutions to societal inequalities by providing skills training, full-time employment opportunities, educational workshops, health services, a safe work environment, and access to a larger marketplace.
Anchal Project is also committed to environmental conservation and eco-conscious practices, including using 100 percent organic cotton fabric.
To create this collection, artisans practice an intricate, hand-stitching kantha technique and combine contemporary geometric designs with an aggregated stitch pattern. This technique dates back to primitive art and has since developed into an important cultural signifier in India. A team of production assistants diligently oversees the handmade production process from start to finish. To begin, the cotton fabric is washed and ironed. The fabrics are then paneled together, based on the size of the quilt. An artisan then finishes the delicate work and signs her name on the tag. In the final phase, a quality check is conducted and the quilt is packaged for shipment.
